A clear direction for surgical suite software

“

“If your team can build anything but needs help deciding what to build, that’s when you call Cliff.”

We had a strong engineering team and a flagship product that had outgrown its direction, so we brought Cliff in. He gave us the product thinking we were missing and moved easily between our engineers and leadership, while keeping the work anchored to the value it created for our customers. The product improved, but so did the way we make decisions.

The work

Where they were

A live product under contract, with no designer.

When the work started

SurgiScript was live with hospital customers on existing contracts. Cases sat in one shared table used by surgical schedulers and the surgeon-office staff who book cases.

Why they needed design

No one owned design. Product and engineering made design calls between other work.

What they were trying to do

Keep current hospital customers at renewal.

How it ran

Improve the live product.

  1. Weeks 1–6

    Two tracks

Updates shipped to live SurgiScript as they were designed; the new direction took shape in Figma.

  2. Through Oct 2022

    Website

Designed in Webflow and launched in October 2022.

  3. Late 2022 – Jan 2024

    Folding it in

The concept was refined, and pieces of it went into the live product screen by screen.

Result

The website launched in October 2022. The redesign followed, shipping into the live product one screen at a time through January 2024.

In a spot like Medtel’s?

  • Your product is live and under contract, and it can’t stop for a redesign.
  • Your engineers are making design calls between sprints.
  • Customers renew next year, and the product isn’t as easy as it should be.
